Issy Smith
Issy Smith was born Ishroulch Shmeilowitz in 1890 in Egypt
where his father served in the French Consular Service.
After joining the British Army and serving in South Africa and India he migrated to Australia 1912,
but rejoined the UK Manchester Regiment, at the outset of World War I.
Lance Corporal Issy Smith was awarded VC in 1905 for outstanding bravery at Ypres.
